From rondò aria to cantabile-cabaletta: the Italian opera in transition By Joanne Paterson. Abstract. During the late-eighteenth century, a number of different aria types emerged in Italian opera seria in conjunction with the establishment of the Classical style.
One emergent aria form was the two-part, two-tempo rondo aria which Author: Joanne Paterson. Cabaletta, (from Italian cobola, “couplet”), originally an operatic aria with a simple, animated rhythm, and later a fast concluding section of a two-part operatic aria.
